Lupita Nyong'o Mixed Banana Prints and a Disco Ball Clutch to Flawless Effect

When I hear the words "banana print dress," the first thing that comes to mind is a kooky garment that would look perfect on Miss Frizzle, the fictional schoolteacher who drove the Magic School Bus I read about as a kid. What does not occur to me immediately is the idea that a banana print dress could somehow be the classiest thing in the room at a fancy dinner. But having seen the one Lupita Nyong'o wore to celebrate the launch of stylist Micaela Erlanger's book "How to Accessorize" on Tuesday night in New York, that will probably change moving forward.

Nyong'o's Prada dress stood out from the crowd with its bright yellow color and funky graphics, but the more traditionally flattering shape somehow managed to exude class all the same. Paired with silver Schutz heels that coordinated with lightning bolt earrings from Jennifer Fisher and a disco ball-like Marzook clutch, the dress and its white embroidered florals managed to seem deeply un-boring without feeling too wacky. Banana print, you've officially been upgraded.
